I am so happy to introduce you to award winning Artist, Lenore Crawford and her class Gelling Crocuses. Lenore is known for her amazing, realistic fiber art quilts and teaches in-depth workshops and how to recreate your own photos into beautiful fiber art. I am thrilled that she has agreed to join us here and that she is offering us some things that her students have asked her to teach but she saved them for us! She will be doing a small fiber art piece that uses her technique to create beautiful, ultra realistic fiber art but, She will be teaching you how to apply them differently. This has been a highly requested class and she have never taught this class before. Lenore is excited to offer it exclusively to the students at the Fiber Art Connection in Session 2!
This method will allow you to cover almost anything with beautiful fabrics. I can't wait!!
Once you learn the technique you will find numerous ways to infuse this into other projects or fiber art pieces.
We will be using colorful, fun and bright fabric that you will select to learn how to precisely and professionally recreate these beautiful Crocuses onto a wonderful canvas covered fiber art piece that will be ready to hang or frame.

Lesson 4- Stitch-Paint-Whimsy with Libby Williamson
Drum roll....Introducing Libby Williamson who is not only a friend and neighbor but also an amazing textile and mixed-media artist and teacher who combines a variety of cloth and paper fibers to create her art quilts and canvases. Her work is textural, brightly colored and usually incorporates both hand and machine stitching. Using assorted mark-making techniques, Libby adds paint and dye to the materials as she works. Rarely does she use commercially printed fabric without altering it first. By over-dyeing and painting the printed fabrics, Libby transforms the cloth with her own marks and colors.
Join Libby for two weeks of creative fun as she guides you through a series of her free-motion stitching techniques. Libby’s style is one of loose, sketchy lines with overlapping stitches and little regard to meticulously fussy stitch-length. She is rarely concerned with precision and perfection. Libby often sits at her machine with only a vague sense of her design outcome. She approaches sewing the same way she paints…freely and intuitively. I have been to Libby's Studio where she teaches her classes for both adults and children, it is a magical place!
Though Libby has an enormous appreciation for finely skilled free-motion quilting, her focus is on art making with the use of a sewing machine. These are more projects perfect for the holidays fast approaching!!
Using your sewing machines as a drawing tool, you will practice creating loose, sketchy designs on fabric.

Lesson 5- Shibori Dyeing with Indigo or Procion Dyes
I am so excited to introduce you to Cecile Whatman a wonderful Fiber Artist and Instructor Cecile is an Australian textile artist, teacher and designer who works with dyes, paints, fibers and fabric to create art quilts and fabric through felt, mixed media and surface design techniques. She loves using unusual fabrics which she hand dyes, such as silks, velvets, burlap and more to create texture and depth.
Cecile works with art quilts as well as modern and traditional patchwork. She started her creative journey making clothes for herself and later her children. She bought her first sewing machine when she was fourteen and has not really stopped sewing since. The need to make utilitarian items like clothes and household items plus a love for hand embroidery lead her to quilting when expecting her first child who is now 25. The rest, as they say is history.
Cecile has taught extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand for over 15 years; at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham in 2014 ,2015 and 2016; and Houston International Quilt Festival in 2014 and 2016. Cecile appeared on Quilting Arts TV in Series 1600 and 1700 and had articles published in Quilting Arts Magazine in Issues 76 and 77 in 2015. She will be teaching in both Birmingham and Houston again in 2016 and is running additional online classes in Surface Design (Stunning Surfaces) and dyeing with Procion dyes (Almost Alchemy). She has been published in countless Australian patchwork and textile art magazines and has self published three books on traditional patchwork for beginners.
